It’s a dilemma, you accept that you would probably benefit from the help of an executive coach, your budget is even there to cover it, but then again it’s “the same old same old”.
People often get confused about what Life Coaching should be used for. Life coaching is not counselling, nor is it therapy. No one is going to tell you what to do and certainly you are not going to receive any medical advice.
You wont be sitting on any therapists couch being asked to answer questions about your distant past or your early childhood and there is not even the slightest hint that seeing a life coach means that somehow you are not “together” and capable of achieving success on your own terms.
Life coaching therefore is essentially for people who are well both mentally and physically. The purpose of life coaching is to bring about a change for the better. It’s as simple as that. The first tenet therefore is that you have to accept and believe that change is possible and that you can achieve change.
This then leads neatly to the second tenet and that is that you have to accept responsibility for identifying and actioning the steps needed to achieve the desired future state. It is through the skill of the coach that you will be able to identify clearly what it is that you need to change.
It is very common for people to say things like …“I am not happy”…”I am not fulfilled”… “ I am not progressing in my career”… “ I hate my job” and sadly even…”I hate my life”.
What a waste of nature's gift and lets face it regardless of what your spiritual beliefs might be you are only going to get one stab at living it in your current body. These are merely proclamations of woe and a bit empty and self-indulgent. The response of the coach would be to say then lets get something done.
You have to identify the specifics if you want to change any of these very general statements of woe. Once you can glimpse the possibilities open to you the end goal becomes imaginable and as soon as you can imagine clearly enough then powerful change is really within your grasp.
Life coaching is for change and a good life coach will help you to change. It doesn't matter if it's a business issue or a personal issue that needs addressing. Once you start to see that anything is possible then the change is already taking place.
